Dear Club Secretary,
I write to you about the possibility of your club joining the North Middlesex Table Tennis League (NMTTL), at some in the future. Our clubs are located in the North London areas of Tottenham, Bounds Green, Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill, Hampstead Garden Suburb, and in the surrounding districts of Enfield, Barnet, Chingford, Southgate and Potters Bar.
We were founded in 1931. We currently have 4 divisions of playing standard. Last season we had 37 teams in the league and are looking for more clubs to join us. We regard ourselves as a very friendly table tennis league that also provides some excellent competition, particularly in the higher divisions. Along with the League program, which starts in September and finishes in March of each year, we also have a Handicap Cup competition which is incorporated into the playing season. The first round of the Handicap Cup is played in round robin groups.
At the end of the season we hold our annual tournament in April, which is played over a weekend at one of our clubs. This provides the chance for players in the lower divisions to play against some of the higher ranked players in the league. We also play inter-league matches against teams from other leagues in the Middlesex area. These matches usually take place at weekends. So I hope you can see that we provide a good variety of table tennis match play for our members.
We provide all registered players with a League Handbook so they can see the fixture chart and travel information, etc. Players and officials can also visit the North Middlesex League website for an up to date results and fixtures service. If you want to view the website please go to:
www.tabletennis365.com/northmiddlesex
I have enclosed a set of forms for you to view for entering the NMTTL league. The basic cost of entering the league is £35 per team. Another set of forms (player registration and handicap cup) are posted to clubs in early August. Each player has to register with the league for a fee of £6 for adults (over 18). Junior players pay £3.
Further to these fees each player who registers with the NMTTL has to first register as a player member with the game’s national body, Table Tennis England (TTE). Fees collected by TTE are used in part to provide funding for the grass roots of table tennis development. The current player membership fee is £16 per adult and £8 per junior player, which covers one playing season. Players need to be registered with TTE before they can play league matches.
League representative usually visit new clubs before they join just to answer any questions / queries and to also check and give advice on the new club’s table tennis playing area. This also includes checking to see if the overhead lighting is sufficient for league table tennis.
I hope this letter has given you some idea of what is involved in joining a table tennis league.
If you have any queries, please contact me by phone or email.
Yours Faithfully
John Fitzgerald
